PIONEER+ is an ambitious EIT HEI Initiative project designed to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) capacity within European higher education institutions. In response to shifting educational landscapes and the triple helix model of university-industry-government collaboration, the project drives systemic change by embedding innovation at every institutional level. PIONEER+ unites experienced and novice partners across Europe to scale up digital transformation and entrepreneurial ecosystems, aligning with the strategic priorities of EIT KIC Digital and EIT KIC Culture & Creativity.
TRANSFORMING HIGHER EDUCATION’S ROLE IN INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS
PIONEER+ envisions higher education institutions as central engines of innovation—driving entrepreneurship, fostering dynamic partnerships, and translating academic research into societal impact. By strengthening institutional structures and supporting digital and entrepreneurial upskilling, the project helps HEIs lead Europe’s transition to a knowledge-driven economy.
PIONEER+ is committed to developing the Innovation Vision Action Plans (IVAPs) that build HEIs’ capacities across five domains: leadership engagement, partnership strengthening, business development, curriculum innovation, and knowledge sharing. Through structured coordination, shared expertise, and targeted activities, the mission is to enable HEIs to adapt, evolve, and co-create impactful innovations for society.
