Dissemination Event for Research Excellence and Innovation Capacity within the activities of the EIT HEI Initiative PIONEER+ project
On 19 February 2026, Ionian University hosted a dissemination event in Corfu presenting the outcomes of an initiative aimed at strengthening research excellence, innovation capacity, and collaboration within the institution.

The event took place at the University Library Building and brought together members of the academic community, innovation stakeholders, and representatives of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The event began with visits to research laboratories across several departments, offering participants the opportunity to explore new research infrastructure and ongoing projects.
During the event, the results of the initiative were presented, highlighting the upgrading of 22 established research laboratories across 8 departments of the University located on three islands, as well as a series of networking activities and interdisciplinary research collaborations. The programme also included presentations from student and research teams who developed prototype business ideas and early-stage entrepreneurial concepts, demonstrating the growing entrepreneurial culture within the university.

The event concluded with a roundtable discussion focusing on the research and innovation ecosystem in the Ionian Region, exploring strategies for strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, and innovation stakeholders.

The dissemination activity was presented in the framework of the EIT HEI Initiative (Cohort 4) – PIONEER+ project, where Ionian University acts as the lead partner, highlighting the role of higher education institutions in supporting innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.
